Chiller trip on high head pressure after 60-90 seconds. Possible issue hang with liquid line solenoid.
Compressor runs for 60 to 120 seconds then shuts down on micro processor hi1 or hi2 pressure trip.
Possible issue with liquid line solenoid no fully opening. In rare cases, the Sporlan liquid line solenoid my hang causing buildup of compressor head pressure. Once head pressure rises to HP1 or HP2 preset for 90 seconds the chillers micro processor controller will lock out compressor on hi1 of hi2.
Legacy uses the sporlan mck1 and mck2 24v solenoid on most models. Using a standard digital amp clamp, the following procedure makes it possible to determine solenoid function.
mkc1 – Normal amp draw will be about .3 amp. If the valve fails to open, amp draw will be about 1.0 amps or more.
mkc2 – Normal amp draw will be about 1.0 amp. If the valve fails to open, amp draw will be about 3.0 amps or more.
Alco/Emerson – Normal amp draw will be about 1.0 amp. If the valve fails to open, amp draw will be about 3.0 amps or more.
