Air-cooled chillers expel the process heat into anbiant air using condenser coils. Water-cooled chillers send cool water through the process in a cycle from a cooling tower.

The placement of your chiller installation depends on the type of chiller you have. Air cooled packaged chillers, they should be placed outside on a level surface. This can be on a concrete pad or on a roof that can support the operating weight of the chiller. A split-system air cooled chiller will have the main control unit indoors and the condenser fans located outside to expel the heat taken away from the process to the ambiant air. Water cooled packaged chillers are typically located indoors as they are connected to the building's piping.

A2L refrigerants are slightly flammable refrigerants with a low toxicity point that meet environmental safety classifications. Starting in 2026 the refrigerants R454A and R454C will be used in all Legacy Chillers units for a decreased environmental impact.
